About Me

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a degree in exercise science, a graduate degree in nutrition & dietetics, and over 7 years of outpatient counseling experience. I am also a NASM certified personal trainer for over 10 years. Personally, my father was overweight with cardiovascular disease most of my life until he passed when I was 19 years old. I saw how eating negatively impacted his health and I wanted to be able to help others succeed with losing weight, improving their quality of life, and overall health. I was also involved in my sister's childhood eating disorder treatment, which naturally sparked my interest in learning about intuitive eating and how I could teach others to have a positive relationship with food. With all of this, I now specialize in working with clients looking to lose weight, including those who have undergone bariatric surgery, as well as prenatal/postpartum moms, folks with gestational diabetes, and people looking improve their overall health and fitness.  My personal experiences, as well as my desire to want to help others live a healthy life, have really inspired me to become a dietitian. It means a lot to me to be able to teach others about consuming a balanced diet to meet specific health goals, as well as how to have a positive relationship with food without restriction or deprivation.

About Me

Welcome! I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with over a decade of experience as a nutrition educator. I specialize in conditions such as diabetes, insulin resistance, weight-related issues, hypertension, gastrointestinal issues, eating disorders, body image distortion, food allergies and sensitivities, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and more. I provide a non-judgmental space for my clients to set goals and learn freely while using a whole person-centered, mindful and culturally aware approach. Once my family made small alterations in our Caribbean diet, I began to see great improvements in my sports performance, grades, energy, and mental health. We will work together, just like my family did, to find ways to continue to prepare foods you enjoy while addressing your physical health and mental health conditions so you and your families can live long, happy, fulfilled lives.

About Me

I am a Registered  Dietitian Nutritionist with over six years of counseling experience. My  journey to becoming a dietitian started in an unlikely place - a fast food  restaurant - but the twists and turns along the way made me realize what I  was truly passionate about. My supervisor at the restuarant happened to be a  dietitian, and from speaking with her I had decided to pursue a career in  nutrition where I could help others. Through my training and early career at  Duke University Hospital, I truly fell in love with how nutrition could  support patients with chronic conditions reach their goals - whether that was  reducing medications, feeling more energized, or simply feeling confident  enough again to nourish their bodies and feel good in their own skin. I was  also able to apply my knowledge to help manage my spouse’s Crohn’s disease,  and I was able to assist my mother as she adapted her diet in the setting of  a new diagnosis of IBS and diverticulosis on top of existing food  intolerances. I later became a family medicine Physician's Assistant, in  addition to an RDN. My specialties include working with clients who have  chronic medical conditions and and those seeking a better relationship with  nutrition, health, and their body. This includes renal and liver disease,  renal transplant, diabetes, weight management, bariatric surgery, and GI  disorders.

We create a supportive and encouraging environment that fits your lifestyle, and you can expect support that is tailored to your needs.
Hormonal Imbalances

Our team will find the right expert to help you reach your goals with a customized plan.
Lifestyle Mapping
Healthy and sustainable weight loss is the goal, and an experienced weight loss nutritionist can help you come up with a plan that will work for you in the long run. Personalized Goals
A one-on-one partnership with a weight loss nutritionist can be helpful if you have specific weight loss goals that aren't covered by generic diet plans. What is a registered dietitian nutritionist?

A registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) is a food and nutrition expert. Every RDN has completed certain requirements and nutrition programs to earn their title. Every RDN has earned a bachelor’s degree with coursework approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

After receiving their degree, every RDN in training completes a certain number of hours of supervised expertise, typically at health care facilities, community agencies, residential care facilities, or food service corporations. Finally, an RDN must pass a national registration examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Benefits of working with a  nutritionist for weight loss:

Regardless of why you are seeking an RDN, there are many ways that you will benefit from personalized nutrition coaching.

Work Through Obstacles

When it comes to health, everyone has their own unique set of challenges. When you are too close to the problem, it can be difficult identifying where you need help and what strategies you can utilize to reach your goals.
A nutritionist serves as an outside expert who can help you recognize what is helping you reach your goals and what isn’t. It’s normal to face setbacks and obstacles when you are working towards your goals. Oftentimes, all you need is some professional guidance and a tailor-made health plan.

Accountability

We all have days when meeting our goals and sticking to our action steps feels more challenging than others. Having someone else by your side to hold you accountable for your goals can be a great motivator.
For instance, if you have an upcoming session with a nutritionist in the books, you will feel more compelled to make smart, healthy decisions that you can later share with your RDN. An RDN will also constantly remind you of why you are working so hard to achieve your goals. Whenever you are drowning in exercise routines or careful meal planning, you will never lose sight of what you are working towards.

Emotional Support

Food is a very central aspect of everyone’s life, and it is something that many people have strong feelings about, whether they are happy, sad, or angry associations.
As you get into replacing old habits with new ones and transforming key aspects of your feelings, emotions are likely to arise. Whatever these emotions may be, it can be beneficial to talk about them with family members, friends, and a trusted healthcare professional. Sharing your challenges will allow your RDN to help you navigate these hurdles and keep you from falling back into bad habits.

What to look for in weight loss dietitian?

Here are some of the most important factors to consider in your dietitian search:

Credentials

Before anything else, you want to ensure that the dietitian you work with is highly qualified and legitimate. While anyone can claim to be a ‘nutritionist’ or health influencer online, it's easy to recognize which healthcare professionals are registered dietitians and which ones are not. All you need to do is look at a dietitian's title. Dietitians can be identified by the letters "RD" (registered dietitian) or "RDN" (registered dietitian nutritionist) after their names.

Customer Service

Whether you are going through a medical emergency or have a health question that you need an answer to, your registered dietitian needs to be a strong communicator. As a vital member of your healthcare team, your RD should be able to respond to your phone calls, emails, and texts promptly. Beyond just accessibility, an empathetic disposition and supportive nature is also important . Good nutrition is a lifelong process that can have great benefits but it can also be a sensitive topic. Find someone who has great bedside manners.

Specialty

While some registered dietitians provide general nutritional advice, many have a specific area of expertise. For instance, some registered dietitians specialize in helping those with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or renal failure, while others specialize in prenatal and postpartum nutrition. If you are seeking a registered dietitian to help you lose weight, make sure to find a registered dietitian who either specializes in weight management or perhaps has experience with disordered eating. There is a specialist for your specific needs.

Working Style

Working with a dietitian is a collaborative experience. Therefore, finding an RD that you are compatible with is essential. While some registered dietitians may have a more strict and "tough love" approach, others will be more gentle and nurturing during your sessions. There is no one right approach, but before hiring a dietitian, ensure that your working styles and personalities are well suited to each other.

Top Nutrition Coaching’s Annual First-Gen Futures Scholarship

Scholarship award: $1000
The Top Nutrition Coaching First-Gen Futures Scholarship is a quarterly recurring scholarship open to all first-generation students whose parents did not receive a four-year bachelor’s degree. The next deadline to apply is June 1st, 2025, and winners will be announced on July 1st, 2025.
Learn More

About the first-gen futures scholarship

Scholarship award available for both college and high school students
Being the first in your family to attend college is an inspiring feat, often with its own unique challenges. First-generation students may not have the same guidance in navigating parts of the higher education system as other students, such as the application process, obtaining financial aid, and even what to expect in college itself.

Financial constraints can also be a significant roadblock for such students, which may limit their choices, force them to balance jobs, family responsibilities, and school work all at once, and make the college experience much more stressful.

Despite these struggles, first-generation college students have proven time and again to be extremely resilient, determined, and hard-working. They embody a spirit of ambition and perseverance as they work toward creating the future they want for themselves and their families.

The First-Gen Futures Scholarship aims to recognize and support exceptional students who are overcoming the barriers of being the first in their families to attend college. By providing financial assistance to deserving individuals, we seek to alleviate some financial stress so that these students can focus more on their studies.
