I’ve been researching superfood powders for quite some time, and as a Registered Dietitian, I know what to look for to help ensure a superfood powder meets the standards necessary to be a quality product worth your investment.

In this Bloom Greens review, I’ll dissect all aspects of this green supplement, from ingredients and stated health benefits to taste, quality, and cost. By the end, I hope you’ll feel confident deciding whether Bloom Greens & Superfoods is the best greens powder for you.

While Bloom Nutrition's products include several wellness supplements that target women as its primary customer, Greens & Superfoods is its flagship product. This superfoods powder is touted as a “daily scoop of gut health goodness,” and is sold as a dietary supplement for those who want to support their overall health.

My Overall Thoughts on Bloom Greens

Bloom Greens Superfoods

The fact is that most people are not getting enough fruits and vegetables in their daily diet. And when we do, it’s often the same ones each week. Not only is consuming at least 2 to 4 cups of vegetables per day critical for our health, but including a variety of produce is also essential. 

A greens powder can help boost our intake of vegetables while also allowing us to take in superfoods that would typically not be in our diet. While Bloom certainly comes across as a stand-out superfoods powder with a variety of ingredients, there are a few flaws that bring it down a notch.

  1. First is the inclusion of maltodextrin as a “digestive enzyme”. If the maltodextrin they use has been specifically treated to become a resistant starch, then it may have positive effects on the digestive tract. In other food products, maltodextrin can be used as a thickener, sweetener, and to improve shelf-life, but some people may be looking to avoid it.
  2. Second is the limited number of green superfoods. Bloom Greens includes nutritional grasses, blue-green algae, and quite a lot of berries and fruit, but it’s a bit more limited in other superfoods such as roots, herbs, greens, and seaweed. It also has just a mere sprinkle of greens at barely 1.5g a serving.
  3. Moreover, there’s no indication of the actual number of nutrients in each dose. Without more transparency into key vitamins and minerals, I just don’t know its nutritional value.

Bloom Ingredients Analysis

Bloom breaks up its ingredients into blends. We'll get into the nitty gritty by taking a dive into each superfood category.

Ingredient Analysis

Fiber Blend

With chicory root fructo-oligosaccharides, flaxseed, and apple fruit powder, the added fiber is both soluble and insoluble. And at 1.6 grams, this blend makes up the biggest proportion of each scoop.

Green Superfood Blend

This blend includes different nutritional grasses, such as organic barley grass powder, organic wheatgrass powder, and organic alfalfa leaf powder; as well as the blue-green algae organic spirulina powder and organic chlorella powder. 

Spirulina and chlorella are antioxidant-packed powerhouse ingredients that we rarely get enough of. Spirulina is quite rich in protein and contains several micronutrients, including many of the B vitamins along with copper and iron. Chlorella is also nutrient-rich and may even bind to heavy metals to help remove them from the body.

However, note that our body can only get full benefits from chlorella if the indigestible cell walls have been broken. Bloom Nutrition does not indicate if their chlorella is cracked or broken cell wall, which are the optimal forms.

Pre- and Probiotic Blend

This superfoods powder contains blue agave Inulin as its prebiotic, along with three strains of probiotics. The Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus probiotics included are generally well-researched for their ability to impact our gut and immune health. 

Bloom does not tell us how many CFUs are in their superfoods powder. So while these beneficial bacteria may aid digestive health, we simply don’t know if there’s enough for a minimum dose.

Fruit and Vegetable Blend

From carrots and beetroot to blueberries, kale leaf powder, and broccoli, the fruit and vegetable blend in Bloom Greens provides a variety of produce.

I appreciate how this greens powder includes vegetables that are orange and red, as these provide an array of nutrients and antioxidants important to our health. For example, beets are rich in a plant compound that helps to increase blood flow and oxygen uptake.

This blend also contains ginger root extract, which has been shown to play a role in digestive health.

Antioxidant Beauty Blend

While all plants contain valuable antioxidants, berries are especially rich in these phytonutrients. The Antioxidant Beauty Blend contains a wide range of these petite fruits, including cranberry fruit powder, strawberry fruit powder, tart cherry juice, elderberry, goji berry, grape seed extract, and acai.

Antioxidants are plant compounds that help protect our cells from damage that may eventually lead to poor health and illness. This is why having an abundance of plants in your diet is incredibly beneficial. 

Goji berries became popular in the U.S. relatively recently. With a high concentration of bioactive compounds, research indicates that one benefit of this fruit includes its ability to modulate the gut microbiota.

The antioxidant blend also contains matcha green tea leaf, which may add some caffeine to this dietary supplement.

Digestive Enzyme Blend

Digestive enzymes help our body break down foods. Some people may experience digestive upset and bloating discomfort if their body isn’t producing enough of these enzymes to help support gut health. 

Bloom Greens & Superfoods’ digestive enzyme blend comprises six compounds, including amylase, cellulase, and lipase. This blend is also where they’ve included maltodextrin. 

Adaptogenic Blend

Bloom’s final blend contains six adaptogens:

  1. Ashwagandha root powder
  2. Rhodiola root powder
  3. American ginseng
  4. Astragalus root powder
  5. Licorice root extract
  6. Eleuthero

Adaptogens have been used in traditional Chinese medicine as a way to help bolster the body’s stress response. For example, both American ginseng and ashwagandha may help us better deal with anxiety. Overall this is a good combination of adaptogenic plants, though at 100mg for the entire blend, it may not contain an effective dose of each individual ingredient. For example, studies have recommended Rhodiola doses of 200-600mg.

Bloom’s Health Claims

While very few studies have been done on greens powders, research on the positive impacts of vegetables is strong. Each greens powder will have a different array of superfoods that help provide purported effects.

Let’s take a look at what Bloom claims and which ingredients may help support these benefits.

Digestion and Gut Health

With a combination of added fiber, probiotics, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes, this superfoods powder may help with digestion and gut health.

A key factor in our digestive health is having a balanced, thriving gut microbiome. Probiotics play a key role here, helping keep our digestion robust. However, as I mentioned earlier, we don’t know how many CFUs of probiotics are in this blend, so it’s hard to confirm if Bloom meets the minimum daily recommendation.

Bloating

The uncomfortable feeling of bloating may be caused by several factors, including being unable to digest certain foods, food intolerances, and even stress.

To help, this superfoods powder has six digestive enzymes to help break down and absorb the foods we eat. Assuming there is an effective dose of adaptogens, these plants may also help ease bloating by impacting our ability to regulate stress. And finally, ginger root has been shown to impact bloating for some people as well.

Immunity

Our immune system relies on specific vitamins and minerals to help it perform optimally. While there are plenty of vegetables and fruits in this superfoods powder that would increase its micronutrient content, the only two listed on the supplement fact panel are iron and sodium. Bloom Nutrition greens doesn't even list vitamin C, which is a staple when it comes to immunity.

For these reasons, we can’t know for sure if this dietary supplement would provide us with ample nutrients to help impact our immune function.

Probiotics may also affect our immune response, however without knowing how many CFUs are present, we again can’t be certain.

Energy

Your ability to fight off fatigue is reliant upon our body’s ability to convert food to energy. Just as with the immune system, the process of energy production involves many vitamins and minerals. A good greens powder would help bridge these nutrient gaps.

Without a more comprehensive supplement facts panel, we simply are at a loss for how Bloom Greens may impact our energy levels.

However, it does contain goji berry, astragalus, and rhodiola, all of which may stave off fatigue.

Compared to some other greens supplements like Athletic Greens AG1, Bloom Greens & Superfoods is affordably priced.

  • One 30-day supply costs $34.99, while a monthly subscription prices out at $31.49. This comes out to about $1.05 per one scoop. 
  • If you are purchasing a 60-day supply, the out-of-pocket cost will be $64.99, with a $58.49 price tag for a monthly subscription. Bloom also offers stick packs for a one-time purchase of $27.99.
  • Should you purchase a subscription or more than $50 at a time, shipping is free. 

Bloom’s website states you can modify, pause, or cancel your subscription at any time. Unlike Live it Up Super Greens, Bloom Nutrition does not have a money-back guarantee, but you can return their greens and superfoods powder within 15 days as long as it has been unopened.

A brand will strategically curate what consumers view and read about their product to help build excitement and loyalty. This is why checking customer reviews from many sources will help glean insights on true impressions from everyday users.

Most people say Bloom Greens tastes delicious. With ten flavors to choose from, there’s something for just about everyone:

Bloom Greens & Superfoods is a popular greens powder with a large social media following. Bloom aims to infuse its greens powder with a variety of superfoods that promise to help promote energy, reduce bloat, and aid in digestion.

This plant-based greens powder is fairly clean with no additives, no artificial colors or sweeteners, and no added sugar. It is also gluten-free, dairy-free, third-party tested, and uses a GMP-certified facility to help ensure quality and safety.

In this Bloom Greens review, I discussed how this superfoods powder is a strong contender, blowing out other competing green supplements when it comes to variety in flavors. With that said, there are other excellent greens powders out there with a better diversity of superfoods and high-quality ingredients that are packed with verified vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients for a similar price. 

It’s important to remember that every person has differing health concerns and goals, and the dietary supplements they take should represent their individual needs. Always check with a nutritionist or your healthcare provider before adding new health supplements into your daily routine.

If you add a greens powder, your dietitian will ask: “Is this improving your vegetable and phytonutrient intake? Is it affecting your digestion or appetite? Is the cost worth the benefit compared to whole foods?”

As the review above highlights, not all greens powders are created equal. A dietitian will assess ingredient lists, certifications, micronutrient content, and whether the product is evidence-based. For example, the author noted that the greens content in the product is relatively low and the transparency around nutrients is limited. Bottom line: If you’re engaging a specialist in diet coaching for weight loss or working with weight-loss dietitians, remember the best results happen when your coaching and diet plan are the foundation, and supplements are additional support.

If health and longevity are your goal, there is still no replacement for a balanced, healthy diet with plenty of whole vegetables and fruits, protein, whole grains, and healthy fats. Think of greens powders as a complement to your diet, rather than a replacement for all the plants your body requires for optimal health.
