What to expect in your first session with this dietitian?
Our first session is a lot of getting to know each other. I'll complete a thorough assessment by asking details about your nutrition and lifestyle to help create your personalized care plan. Together, we'll review your individual goals in greater detail and develop practical, realistic strategies to start achieving them. I'll provide some initial nutrition education to help you start making small changes right away. By the end of the session, my hope is you'll have a clear understanding of your goals, personalized strategies to achieve them, and motivation to help guide you on this next chapter in your health.

Approach to care

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with over 13 years of counseling experience. I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Dietetics from Mount Mary College. My speciality includes working with clients for weight management, diabetes, heart disease and GI disorders, as well as those who are looking to improve their overall health and wellness. Personally, I have struggled with my weight most of my life. Unfortunately, that led to an eating disorder in high school and some of college. This experience, in turn, inspired me to become a dietitian. I didn't know what was right back then, and I wanted to learn more so that I could help someone with the same struggles or prevent someone from struggling the way I had.

Hobbies

Spending time with my family is one of my favorite things. I also love working in my vegetable garden, listening to music (especially 80's), watching movies, baking and doing puzzles.

I am a believer that all foods in moderation are a part of a healthy diet, and no food is off limits. We are creatures of habit; my goal is to help guide you on forming healthier habits that you can stick with long term. To decrease the stress that comes with changing eating patterns, I encourage making small changes over time, which can lead to great improvements in overall health.

Working with Melissa tremendously changed my relationship with food and the way I perceive my body. Before Top Nutrition Coaching, I used numbers as the sole measure of my success�whether it was losing 5 more pounds, burning an extra 500 calories per day, or restricting daily consumption to under 1400 Kcal. I believed that by achieving these goals, I could attain my ideal body image and live happily ever after. I did reach these goals several times using various approaches (ex. Keto, intermittent fasting, huge calories deficit...etc.) in the past. However, there's no finish line in my diet journey, and since those approaches were not sustainable, the numbers rebounded. This led to increased anxiety around food and life in general.

During my collaboration with Melissa, I learned to slow down, gradually debunk and let go of the diet myths I had carried for so long. I started to cease weighing and calculating everything I ate, instead learning to tune into my body's cues. Melissa shared abundant information regarding recipes and tips, from ordering in restaurants to holiday gatherings. I learned to make better choices while dining out and felt more comfortable celebrating special occasions with friends. I discovered that life can be joyful when balanced. With all the improvements I've made in my diet, I am finally seeing muscle gain with my training, and I feel more confident in my own skin.
