What to expect in your first session with this dietitian?
During our initial session you can expect a comprehensive and personalized approach to understanding your goals and how nutrition will play a role in achieving them. I like to start sessions by getting to know one another a bit, on both a professional and personal basis. From there, I'll ask your help in a few areas, such as; describing your goals and expectations for our work, providing your relevant medical and dietary history, and assessing your current nutrition status and initial diet analysis (ie. what your current eating pattern is like). From there, we set our sights on the future. We'll identify your top priorities, set an initial SMART Goal to to make progress towards those priorities, and provide any relevant education or counseling needed to take those initial steps.

Approach to care

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with over 4 years of counseling experience in the fields of weight management and sports nutrition. I switched careers to become a dietitian out of a desire to feel like I was making a measurable difference in peoples lives and making the world a better place; something I never felt like I was doing working in a corporate environment after undergrad. I have a Master of Science in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology from Columbia University in New York City. Personally, I'm also an accomplished endurance athlete, having completed an array of races from 10 milers, half marathons, marathons (4x top 10% finisher of Boston Marathon, NY Marathon, Philly Marathon), Iron Man 70.3 (Maine, Atlantic City) and Iron Man (Maryland). I specialize in working with clients to use the synergy between food and physical activity to optimize their health and performance.

Hobbies

I don't have a laundry list of hobbies, thouh, those the ones I do have I am fiercely passionate about. I love cooking, plain and simple, and love cooking for my fiance, family, friends (even my dog, too) and experiment with new cooking methods, flavors, ingredients and recipes. I'm an avid endurance sports enthusiast, focusing mostly on running events (marathon) and Iron Man Triathlon. And when I'm not in the kitchen, the pool, on my bike, or have my running shoes on, I'm more than likely on the golf course!

More About This Dietitian

My coaching philosophy and approach are informed, first, by the fact that “everybody is different, thus, every body is different.” That is, our work together will never feel standardized, “cookie-cutter”, or a “one-size-fits-all” solution. We’ll work together to understand your goals and your needs, develop a plan customized to every element of you (ie your time and schedule, your environment, your food preferences) to achieve those goals, and carefully build a plan to maintain them as your life changes. We’ll work in a judgement-free space focused on the development and maintenance of habits to support your goals!

"This Dietitian helped me get my life back”

Gia M.

A former athlete, I found it hard to shed the 38lbs I gained post-retirement. Matt Abel made it feel like a championship game. I'm back in form, stronger and healthier than ever. He is my MVP!
